IKPA UDO

My real name is, Nsidibe Sunday Ukim, I’m a Nigerian born rapper, my dear fans know me as Ikpa Udo in the entertainment industry, a name I earned from South-south area of Nigeria where I come from, Akwa Ibom State to be more specific. I was born on the 29th of November,1992 into the family of Mr/Mrs Sunday Ukim in a family of 3 and I’m the lastchild. Before I became prominent in the industry, some of my early followers use to call me ‘Indigenous Maliq”, but the ‘Íkpa Udo’ seem to have taken a bigger share of my identification in the public sphere

How will you describe your kind of song?

My kind of song is very unique, I do Afro hip hop with a fusion of dance and I can ably rap in my indigenous languages- Efik/Ibibio weaving it stylishly as for it to sit well in the Hip Hop market. This approach to music is what carved me my niche despite the growing numbers of entertainers springing up in Nigeria daily.

Do you pull any weight in Nigeria?

Wao! Let me humbly tell you that I started music at a very early stage in my life, so I’m, confident in the wealth of experiences that I have gathered in that given time up to this moment. I was on the street with my talent for a very long time, but took my career official in 2009. I have released a couple of songs which includes “Ame Nwod” a song whose video had a massive video viewership from listeners among all my hit singles, in fact, the song was so much a success that it got me a title-it was after I did the song that my fans, especially the Calabar folks started referring to me as “Lyrical Edidem”.

Besides, I have worked with lots of amazing artistes and well positioned under an effective management team and this I believe gives me a huge credence in the industry. I was featured on track 9 of Solid star’s Gift & Grace album, I’ve also recorded with splash, stomrex,da suspekt, Shakar el among others and don’t forget that my talent is being managed by Maximum Disturbance Entertainment, which is co-owned by the dynamic Oty Edo, younger brother to Nollywood’s super actress Ini Edo, that is a strong point for me.

If I keep working hard, I sure believe I am set to take over the industry with all what I have on ground and my surrounds.

What inspires you?

Anything inspires me o. In everything I do, I pick up inspirations easily and this reflects in my works. I will just sum it all up by saying I’m inspired by reality. Then, I love to listen to great acts like Busy Signal,Kardinal official ,Kendrick Lamar , Jhene Aiko, Jadakiss, Scarface etc. every good music goes well with me.

Your challenges in the industry?

For me, there is no other challenge that is as big as the problem of piracy, it something that is so disturbing, in that it doesn’t give artistes the desired market return of their works. But I believe the industry will grow above it with time, aside that there is nothing else that poses a serious challenge to me.

What will you do if your next album goes viral?

If my next music goes viral and I hit millions, I will go into clothing, that is something I have a huge passion for.

How much is you worth as an artiste?

I am sure you will agree with me that one rarely come across someone with a dialect one don’t speak but yet one still connects with the energy behind his vibe- that is my selling point. I’m the last of my kind, so I will say the truth, Ikpa Udo is worth billions of dollars, that is just the beginning of my least pricing.
